Here is a series of works that aims to investigate the meanings and suggestions about the thirteenth Arcane of the Tarot.
The Concept.
As an architectural element, stairs allow us to move between levels of a building or a place by going up or down a series of steps.
As a universal symbol, stairs represents a transformation through the phases of existence.
Body matter takes on intelligent life
and becomes self-aware.
Civilizations also face problems
relating to their own development:
wars, invasions, disparity, epidemics,
but also economic development,
technological progress, opportunity for redemption.
Stairs in darkness, from the
deepest subconscious that speaks
without being recognized, rise towards
the light, equally unknown and frightening.
We don’t know why we’re on the steirs
or why we strive to follow them.
We wonder about this, and with every
step, we find distracting obstacles
and the ultimate meaning, again, escapes us.
